EMLL offers U10, U12, and U14 teams typically competing at a recreational / Level C skill set.
For Spring/Summer play, currently we plan to compete in the Windmill Fast Pitch Softball League, which emphasizes local travel, weeknight games, and positive sportsmanship.
The season begins with practices in early May, and weeknight games from late May through July, typically two practices and one doubleheader game night per week. This format is designed to limit travel and keep most weekends free.
Each player will receive a hat or visor, a shirt or jersey, as well as numerous EMLL community events (pre-season skills practice, mid season skills competition, nights with the Mallards/Nightmares), and a full season of softball games with an end of season tournament.
Players only need to supply pants, cleats, and a glove. While additional gear such as bats and fielding masks are encouraged, EMLL has gear to share for those new to the sport.
U8 Softball – Interest & Opportunities
U8 is a great age to begin learning the fundamentals of softball. We are currently exploring skills-based summer training options and the potential for local scrimmages or exhibition play for U8 athletes.
Families with U8-aged players are encouraged to reach out and express interest, as early feedback helps us plan programming and determine team opportunities. U8 players who are ready for competitive play are also welcome to register for U10. More details and registration links for U8 opportunities will be shared soon.

AGE GROUPS - LEAGUE NIGHTS
The following are the designated game nights for each age group.
- U10 games are played on Monday
- U12 games are played on Tuesday
- U14 are played on Thursday
U10 - U14 Age Classification:
A player’s age on August 31, of the previous sanction year determines the age classification in which the player is eligible to participate. Players can play up a level, but cannot play down.
For example: Any player aged twelve or under as of Aug 31 of the prior year to the current softball season could play U12 level, or play up to U14 level, but cannot play down to U10 level.
Home games are played at EMLL, away game travel is typically within the greater east-Madison area and generally under 45 minutes.
2026 League Tournament
Each team will participate in at least one end-of-season tournament. Additional optional tournaments may be available by team choice, with any extra fees communicated in advance.
The Windmill League will be celebrating the 30th year of it's Annual Tournament in 2026. The tournament will be held on July 31 thru August 2 at the Brandt Quirk Park in Watertown, WI.
Pre-Season
A pre-season skills and evaluation clinic is planned for early registrants to support balanced teams and player readiness. Keep an eye out for more details!
Why the Windmill Fast Pitch Softball League?
Windmill has consistently been a strong fit for our program because it:
-
Schedules weeknight games, helping protect family summer weekends
-
Promotes good sportsmanship and positive competition
-
Offers recreational Level C play that is competitive, consistent, and development-focused
-
Allows participation without strict district boundaries, helping us form balanced teams
-
Supports affordable registration pricing without sacrificing quality of play
Our goal is simple: give players meaningful game experience while keeping the season manageable and enjoyable for families.
Coaches, Team Managers, and Volunteers... we need you!
EMLL softball relies on volunteer coaches and team support roles, including assistant coaches, base coaches, team managers, and game-day volunteers. No prior coaching experience is required, and roles are flexible—from helping at practices or skills clinics to supporting teams on game days. Volunteering is a rewarding way to support our players, build confidence, and help create a positive experience for kids throughout the season.
